Module 01 · SOLAS V/19-1

LRIT Activation
IMO Compliant

Long Range Identification and Tracking — mandatory SOLAS system for vessels on international voyages. NavPoint handles registration, conformance testing and annual renewal.

Overview

What Is LRIT?

Regulation

Mandated under SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 19-1. Effective 1 January 2008. Administered by IMO through National Data Centers (NDCs) and Application Service Providers (ASPs).

How It Works

The onboard LRIT terminal transmits vessel identity, position and time to a ship reporting system 4× per day (or on-demand). Data is accessible to the flag state and authorized coastal states.

Exemptions

Vessels operating exclusively in GMDSS Sea Area A1 with AIS fitted may be exempt under specific flag state provisions. Contact NavPoint to confirm your vessel's status.

Applicability

Category B

All passenger ships, including high-speed passenger craft, engaged on international voyages regardless of tonnage.

Category C
